Aviation

Most people in Europe have experienced a journey on an aircraft. Since the 1960’s when air travel really started to make its mark millions of people have travelled worldwide to numerous destinations. You can now travel almost anywhere in the world, and it is air travel that has made this possible. Air travel is much quicker than boat, and people consider the airport as the start of their holiday, with drinks being readily available at the bar, and on the plane where the customer is waited, and everyone is happy at the prospect of a good holiday ahead of them.
The aircraft has come on leaps and bounds since the first passenger aircrafts. The Douglas DC-3 was made in 1935 and first brought into use in 1936. This aircraft was the first and only aircraft of its time to make a passenger service profitable. It held 21 passengers in total, and was open for use to the general public in 1945 by trans Canada airlines. Although many newer and faster airliners with more seating capacity were developed after this, the DC-3 had a very long service which spanned over 50 years, and were in use throughout the 70’s and 80’s, some still exist today.
Another great aircraft of its time was the Concord, the first scheduled slight for concord was the 21st of January 1976. The concord was considered as a supersonic aircraft breaking records for air travel speed over and over again. The people who travelled on concord said the experience was one of the very best. Although the interior of the aircraft dated and did not keep up with the new transatlantic aircrafts, the speed of the aircraft itself won people over, as a journey time to New York from England was little over 3 and a half hours. Concords hey day came to an end in 2000, after one of the aircrafts crashed on take off at Paris airport. Everyone on the flight perished as did people on the ground.
Aviation will continue to be successful as more and more people holiday abroad. Flights have become much more luxurious than ever before, and while ever they are improving people are interested in flying on them. If you pay first class or business class, then you can expect the ultimate in luxury, with reclining seats, on some transatlantic flights these make into beds. The food in first class is also top notch, with on tap free alcoholic drinks served on demand.
